& Testimonials

Kasey B.

Our daughter has trained with Blackhound Equestrian for 3 years, and we are so happy with their professionalism, kindness, and care for both our horse and equestrian athlete. Instruction is flexible but organized; serious, but so very supportive and kind. Our daughter’s riding has progressed noticeably since joining the Blackhound team.

Janis U.

The Blackhound team and their capable assistants are adept at addressing the needs of each individual – even within the context of group lessons – and have challenged me to improve and do more without pushing me past where I’m comfortable.

Marlis B.

I chose the program because I wanted my daughter to develop a safe, well-rounded knowledge of this sport–not just how to ride, but how to care for the horse, understand and navigate the personalities and the moods of these amazing creatures, and to have the opportunity to grow in skills, confidence and responsibility.

Team Blackhound

Kate Jutagir

Owner and Head Trainer

Kate embarked on a career path steeped in tradition, respect, and the undying support of a large pool of talented professionals. Building on catch rides and project mounts, she quickly learned that the path to success is paved by hard work, determination, and a supportive community.

After her junior career, Kate went to work for two successful sales barns in the Northeast and South. After moving to the West Coast with her husband Joel, she opened Blackhound Equestrian in 2008. Originally designed to be a top-notch riding school to springboard dedicated students into careers in the industry, it has grown into a well-rounded hunter/jumper training program for all levels, from Short Stirrup to Grand Prix. She never loses sight of the path she took to get to Blackhound and Kate hopes to give back to the sport that has given her everything.

Morgan Caplane

Head Rider and Trainer

Morgan has competed up to the 1.60 meter level and developed many Grand Prix horses, earning top placings in numerous Grands Prix Morgan also loves developing young horses and has twice won Sacramento International Horse Show’s Young Horse Championship and Best Young Horse honors.
